On a beautiful Vancouver day, Sunday, July 8 in the 3rd race at Hastings Racecourse, BC-bred Pan Handle , ridden by Richard Hamel, came from off the pace to beat his Maiden Special Weight company, running 6 1/2 furlongs in a quick 1.16.97. The stakes placed, 3-year-old chestnut gelding finally got the win he richly deserved after finishing second in 5 out of 8 lifetime starts. Owned by the powerhouse North American Thoroughbred Horse Company, trained by Glen Todd and bred by Salishan Meadows and North American Thoroughbred Horse Company, Pan Handle not only earned a nice first place purse but also $5,000 bonuses for both owner and breeder. Pan Handle is by Texas Wildcatter and out of the Thunder Gulch mare, Thunder Goddess. Thunder Goddess has also produced winners Odin and Easter Sunday. Now that Pan Handle has broken out of the maiden ranks look for him to take on stakes runners again.
