On bulldog racing Sunday, June 24 at Hastings Racecourse a Maiden Special Weight for 2-year-olds, thoroughbreds, going 6 furlongs was won by BC-bred Bugsy . Ridden by top jock Amadeo Perez, Bugsy, was away well and positioned near the lead, despite getting a wide trip most all the way, the 2-year-old gelding determinedly inched clear and won in hand. He is trained by Dino Condilenios and owned by Swift Thoroughbreds who plucked him from 2017 CTHS Sale for a very reasonable $14,000. Bugsy is the first winner for one year stallion Shrug, and out of Haunting You by Bold Laddie. If you recognize the name Bold Laddie you have been around BC thoroughbred breeding for a long time. He was an iconic sire, based out of the Salishan Meadows operation who bred Bugsy. Haunting You has produced 4 other winners in her broodmare career, including stakes placed Avulsion. Important to note that both the owner, Swift Thoroughbreds, and the breeder, Salishan Meadows score $5,000 each in bonuses for this MSW win by Bugsy.
