Nite N Day Management and Joanne Todd's two-year-old filly Tempered Steel (Tempered Appeal) rallied late to win the $50,000 CTHS Sales Stakes for fillies on Friday night at Hastings. The winning filly was purchased by her owners from Tod Mtn. Thoroughbreds from the 2011 sale by her current connections. Ridden by Frank Fuentes for conditioner Brian O'Connell, the winner finished ¾ length ahead of Nick and Pauline's regally bred I Want To Dust Her (Mass Market) who was 2 ½ lengths clear of L.D.S. Enterprisies Kiri's Gal (Kiidashi) at the finish of the 6.5 furlong sprint. Tempered Steel covered the distance in 1:19.59 and returned $11.60 to win. The heavy favourite in the six-horse field, Bamboo Dream (Finality), finished a closing fourth after being fractious in the gate.
