On Saturday, June 9th, on Belmont Stakes Day, about 1/2 hour before Justify's epic Triple Crown run, there was another horse race at Hastings Racecourse, the 4th race, a 2nd level Allowance optional claiming for fillies and mares going 6 1/2 furlongs. Omi, hustled to the lead by jockey Scott Williams, held her position comfortably, winning handily by 3/4 of a length in the quick time of 1:17.64. Omi has now won 6 times, having entered the race under the $25,000 claiming option, and appears poised to go and get more. She is owned by Swift Thoroughbreds, trained by Dino Condilenios and was bred in Kamloops, BC by Tod Mountain Thoroughbreds who sold her in the 2014 CTHS BC Sale for $43,000. Omi is by deceased BC stallion Rosberg, and out of the good mare Groovy Minister. Groovy Minister has produced numerous winners, which have collected over $900,000 in purse money, including stakes placed Side by Side, English Minister, as well as, Omi herself.
