The following message is sent on behalf of Chairman Douglas S. Scott and the members of the BC Horse Racing Industry Management Committee:

The British Columbia Horse Racing Industry Management Committee discussed the future of the province’s horse racing industry in a strategic planning session held in late June.

The Committee spent parts of two days reviewing the results of consultations with all elements of the industry, and began the process of considering a variety of options for a sustainable horse racing business model for future years.

The Committee feels it made significant progress on addressing some of the issues that face the industry at present. The intention is to look more closely at several alternatives that have the potential to allow horse racing to flourish in B.C. for years to come.

The Committee plans to issue a preliminary report by late summer or early fall.

In addition to chairman Douglas S. Scott , members of the Committee include:

  • Gar Campbell , representing the Standardbred sector
  • Michael Graydon , President and CEO, BC Lottery Corp.
  • Jim McGrogan , representing the track operator, Great Canadian Gaming Corp.
  • George Morfitt , former B.C. Auditor-General
  • Glen Todd , representing the Thoroughbred sector
